QACHS Alumni Association Marks Changes
The Queen Anne’s County High School Alumni Association is pleased to announce its newly elected officers. Outgoing president, Royden Powell (class of ’71) handed the gavel to Mike McMahon (class of ’72). Other new officers include Vice-President Cecelia (Keeney) Nation (class of ’87) and Treasurer Royden Powell (class of ’71). Pam (Clark) Edwards (class of ’72) and Madeline (Parks) Hubbard (class of ’67) will keep their current positions of secretary and membership chair respectively. QACHS Alumni Association Scholarship applications are now available. This year, three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. In order to apply for the scholarships, applicants must be enrolled in a college or university or trade school. They must be current members or must be a direct descendant of a current QACHS Alumni Association member. Applications are available in the Queen Anne’s County High School guidance office or the Kent Island High School guidance office for seniors whose family members graduated from Queen Anne’s County High School and are current members of the QACHS Alumni Association. For eligible students who do not attend our county schools, scholarship applications, as well as membership applications, are also available from the official association website http://qachsalumniassoc.org. Two major fundraising activities and social events are being planned. Proceeds from these events will benefit the scholarship fund as well as provide needed gifts to the school. On Wednesday, April 27, 2011, QACHS Alumni are invited to attend the Guest Bartenders’ night at Doc’s Riverside Grill in Centreville from 6 – 8 p.m. A silent auction and a 50-50 drawing will be featured during the evening. The other event being planned is the QACHS Alumni Jetty extravaganza to be held on Friday, August 5, 2011. Alumni from the past 40+ years are invited to come together for an evening of reminiscing, reunion, and fun. At last year’s event, more than 500 alumni attended. An even grander event is being planned for this year. This is a perfect opportunity to see former classmates in a relaxing atmosphere. QACHS Alumni – mark your calendars…more information will be forthcoming. Memberships in the Queen Anne’s County High School Alumni Association are renewed yearly at a cost of $10 per individual or $15 for alumni married couples. Find more information and membership forms on the official website http://qachsalumniassoc.org. Meetings are usually scheduled for the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the American Legion in Centreville. The committee welcomes and encourages new and interested members to attend. Check the website for specific meeting dates.
